It’s the last day of February, which means spring is right around the corner! One of my favorite things about nice weather is reading on the deck, sunglasses and ice lemon water at hand. It’s not quite time for that in Minnesota, but the end of February certainly brings us closer.
I didn’t do tons of reading this month, but I did have a fun bookish first - book brunch! For my birthday my friends surprised me with brunch and books. It was so fun, and a memory I’ll cherish forever (despite not snapping a photo - shoot!!). My TBR list is overflowing, just the way I like it!
My New Titles
Expecting Adam by Martha Beck
This memoir about a couple expecting their second child - a son with Down syndrome - was eye opening, to say the least. Beck’s writing is beautiful, as is the story she tells. This book made me believe in the unbelievable. I love stories about families who stick together despite hard times, and this book is a perfect example. People are flawed, but most are good.
The Defining Decade by Meg Jay, Ph.D
If you’re in your twenties, I highly recommend this book. We’re all doing the best we can. And if we’re not, Dr. Jay can get you on the right track.
The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot
At lunch one day this month a few colleagues and I got to talking about The Princess Diaries. I hadn’t watched the movie in years, and had weekend plans for a crazy night spent alone with the TV to acquaint myself with the princess of Genovia. I mentioned that although they weren’t as sweet as the movies, I loved the Princess Diaries books, too. A coworker who is a fellow book lover didn’t know of Meg Cabot’s excellent series, so what choice did I have but to dig out my old collection and bring them to her!
What I didn’t know was that the first three book of the series - The Princess Diaries, Princess in the Spotlight, and Princess in Love - are narrated by Anne Hathaway in audio. I downloaded all three immediately, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of my best decisions of February. If you love a fun YA novel, I hope you’ll give these a try!
I’m leaving tomorrow for a weekend getaway, and time traveling means lots of reading! I’m looking forward to the longer days in March. I hope you’re making it through the winter. We’re almost on the other side of the cold. Happy reading!
